Lynda Carter

Carter was born in Phoenix (Arizona) as the daughter of Juanita Cordova and Colby Carter. Her father is of English and has Scots Irish family and her mother is Mexican and Spanish. One brother, Vincent, and one sister, Pamela, are her siblings. Carter, age 5, made her public television debut on Lew King's Talent Show. Carter was part of Just Us during high school. The group performed conga drum and marimba. They also played an acoustic guitar as well as an upright bass which was played by a different member of the group. Lynda started singing at a local pizza joint when she was just 15.  She joined her cousins, The Relatives, when she was 16. Gary Burghoff, actor, was the drummer for The band. The group was first introduced in the Sahara Hotel and Casino lounge in Las Vegas for three months and because Carter was under 21 she was required to go through the kitchen.Carter went to Arizona State University. After being called "Most talented" in the school, Carter decided to quit school in pursuit of an opportunity as a musician. Carter auditioned in the year 1970 and performed on tour with The Garfin Gathering's bandleader Howard (Speedy), Garfin. Their first performance together took place in the Holiday Inn Chinatown in San Francisco and was so new , it didn't have sidewalks. They performed mostly for hotel staff and guests who parked their vehicles underground. The Garfin Gathering played shows in several Nevada casino lounges, such as those between Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno. Carter chose to walk away from the Garfin Gathering in 1972 to pursue acting and she returned to Arizona.
